A lawsuit filed Tuesday against Amoco Corp. seeks payments for seven former
workers at the company's Naperville research center who developed
cancer, three of whom have died.
The suit alleges Amoco
"exhibited reckless disregard for the health and well-being of" the employees by
exposing them for a
"prolonged" time to
"defective, unsafe and/or unreasonably dangerous chemicals." Amoco
"failed to study, investigate, determine, impose or comply with reasonable
standards and regulations to protect and promote the health and safety or to
minimize the dangers, the lawsuit contends.
The complaint also names suppliers of the chemicals; the company that
manufactured and installed ventilation equipment at the research center; and
the engineering company that reviewed the ventilation system.
Nineteen cases of head tumors have been diagnosed among current or former
employees of the center, four of whom have died, the suit says.
